Our Story

Texas One Life began with a simple truth we’ve seen again and again: saving even one life can change a family—and a community—forever.

After years working in emergency rooms, responding to emergency scenes, and working in law enforcement, we have witnessed how quickly an ordinary day can become a life-or-death moment, and how often everyday people are the true first responders. We have seen the difference it makes when those people have the skills and confidence to act before help can arrive.

Texas One Life was created to equip everyday people with real-world lifesaving skills and confidence. We wanted to bring lifesaving education out of sterile classrooms and into the real world—your workplace, church, school, or community space—where training is hands-on, practical, engaging, and built on real experience. No boring lectures. No cookie-cutter slides. Just real skills taught by people who have lived them.

Texas One Life was built to bring lifesaving education directly to workplaces, schools, churches, and families across Texas. Our goal is to empower everyday people to respond with skill and courage when it matters most—because one moment of action can change everything

Dwayne Ulrich, RT(R), (ARRT), MRT(R) Emergency Training Officer and Director of Community Relations

  • Retired Houston Police Officer

  • Former Fire Department Captain

  • Certified AHA Instructor: BLS, HeartSaver

  • Personal Safety & Emergency Preparedness Trainer

Dwayne Ulrich brings decades of frontline service as both a Fire Captain and Houston Police Officer, where he spent years responding to emergencies on the streets—often before backup or EMS ever arrived. From active scenes and high-stress medical calls to unpredictable public emergencies, Dwayne learned firsthand that safety and first aid are inseparable: awareness, quick decision-making, and calm action save lives.

With decades of service to the Houston area community, his work has long focused on prevention and education. Through years of involvement with the Shattered Dreams program, he partnered with schools and community leaders to help young people understand the real consequences of unsafe decisions, reinforcing personal responsibility and care for others. His commitment to safety also led him to help develop a database of Houston-area school floorplans to support faster, more informed law enforcement response during active threat situations—work rooted in the belief that preparation saves lives.

As an American Heart Association Instructor and Personal Safety & Emergency Trainer, Dwayne brings real-world experience into every class he teaches. Known for his steady presence and clear communication, he helps everyday people build confidence, awareness, and practical skills so they are ready to step forward, protect one another, and act decisively when it matters most.

Dwayne trains everyday people to think like first responders—because in the community, in the workplace, and at home, help often starts with the person already there.
